My Progression

This week I have expanded my knowledge on Sports magazines and made a better idea on what coursework I want to do. I have acknowledged what standard I need to get to with my magazine cover to achieve a good grade. I have textually analysed another Sports magazine which I have posted on my blog.

Representation task

Class - This is a negative representation of this person as they have revealed the story about her committing suicide due to a alcohol addiction, which is looked down on upon society (having a alcohol problem) her class is a C1 as she is an owner of a salon owner.

Age - This is a negative representation of teenagers 13-19 because it shows them robbing and hurting someone. It clearly shows the teenagers being violent and un civilised. Which not all teenagers are like that. This is portrayed as a negative thing.

Gender - Stereotypically Sylar (the man) is victorious over the woman and this gives a negative representation on her because it shows she is weaker and more vulnerable than him. He is more powerful and he is champion. This representation of woman is portrayed a lot through out the media of today.

Race - This is a negative representation of Indian people because it clearly shows the poverty and grief they deal with. Also with the song in the background still puts a negative representation, almost saying they're are trouble.

Sexuality - In this clip we see two lesbians being happy with each other until the other twin is criticizing and saying it is wrong to be a lesbian and then is portrayed as a bad thing and this program is very popular and aimed at an audience which will be in fact learning there sexuality so this is a very serious thing. Towards the end though, she admits it to everyone and the sense of emotion is portrayed upon to you, now it is a positive thing, the message then being 'be yourself'

Textual Analysis

Audio Codes: At the start of the clip everything is diegetic and silent until Ryan Gosling notices the gun and turns to the woman, where this non diegetic sound is heard, this is showing the emotions of the two that are kissing, and can be ver emotional for the audience. This is until Ryan Gosling starts to hurt the man which he believes is threatening the woman and his well being. Then everything turns diegetic again and the violence is very clear to hear. The violent diegetic sound is horrific to hear after such a lovely sound when the couple was kissing and really gets the watcher by surprise.

Technical Codes: The first shot in the clip is a mid shot of the three in the elevator showing all of the characters. The high key which calms the audience. High key is usually used in films such as comedies,   dramas etc. The next shot is a close up looking up at the two men with the woman between them. With the camera looking up at them they have a  sense of superiority.  Then the camera moves into a point of view shot of Ryan Gosling looking down the man and seeing his gun. Now with this Ryan now has the sense of superiority, looking down on him. Now the lighting dims and Ryan pushes the woman away from the other man. The lighting is now turned into really low key and Ryan turns really dark and you can hardly see him. This can  symbolise his evilness, maybe that he has turned angry etc. The light is only focused on the woman and she is the only one you can make out in the scene. This could mean that she is portrayed as the good one. Then the shot pans up towards them and into a close up of them to kissing, this is very emotional. The shot then changes showing the whole elevator and looks up at the two men when fighting. This makes it clear of where they want you to focus on. The shot then changes into you looking down on the man bleeding then giving you a sense of weakness. The shots are now changing very quick picking up the tempo of the film, and making its audience on the edge of their seats. Until the shot changes into Ryan Gosling stamping on this mans poor head , now this camera is looking up at him now he is the only man in the shot, clearly stating he has won the fight and he is superior.

Visual Codes: At the start of the clip of is clear to see that the characters are confined within the elevator. The man with the suit on is staring at Ryan Gosling with an angry expression, suggesting something bad is going to happen. The mise en scene here is that Ryan Gosling is checking the guy out because he is suspicious, and sees the handgun in which the guy has hidden. Now the mise en scene is the angry expression of Ryan Gosling, you can actually even see his jaw tightening. The Ryan Gosling pushes the girl back to protect her and then the camera shot pans up into the two people kissing which shows the emotion of the two. The next part is when Ryan Gosling is so to say stamping on this mans head. The man has blood dripping from his face showing the brutality from Ryan Gosling. The mise en scene now is Ryan Gosling with an angry expression, spit going everywhere and so on, clearly not very happy with the other man. Now there is blood down Ryan Goslings jacket showing the brutality of what just happened. The mise en scene is now the elevator door closing, possibly indicating the separation of them.

AS Media Audience Task

Audience task.
Audience.

The intended audience for the the very popular US TV series is 15+ as other audiences would be unsuitable for the scenes in which Breaking Bad shows. An adult theme is portrayed.

Gratifications.

This show allows you to see the life of a drug dealer. Also the show has an endless audience because within the show there are so many emotions, violence etc. for example when Walter gets diagnosed with cancer and the family all cry, it could be a good emotional release. Also for the violence it could could make you feel 'alive' as some people would say. It puts you on the edge of your seat. It allows you to escape from your own life. Some people might see themselves in the characters and this will make them watch it more.

Construction/Mediation

Fictional programmes are different to other series as it tells a story and is scripted, where as on something like big brother there will 24 hours of footage and they'll choose the best footage. The programme also focuses on the two characters which are Walter and Jesse. Even though the cops are against them they are portrayed as the good guys.
